Introducing the Oil Slick Collection

The Oil Slick collection is a limited-edition series crafted with intention to embody resilience and strength in the face of adversity. We will be slow-dropping carefully curated pieces over the course of 2024 that speak to the perseverance of marine flora + fauna.

The Oil Slick Series is a limited-edition series crafted with intention of embodying resilience and strength in the face of adversity.

Since founding Twisted Sea with Eric 7 years ago, I have had a deep desire to create something that wasn’t only pretty to look at, but held a Purpose. Something that speaks out on behalf of the environment struggling to thrive, the environment we take and take and take from, the environment that is so very crucial to our survival.

Eric and I have both grown up deeply immersed in our natural surroundings, and in careers working hands on with wildlife directly. We are both passionate about the environment in which we live, and are very much conservationists at heart. Living with mother nature intertwined so intricately with our lives has only fueled the fire in my soul to create with intention.

I was honored to have artwork featured at the Protect Center by Dolphins Plus Marine Mammal Responder (DPMMR) last fall during their gallery Grand Opening and am so overjoyed to continue to make custom pieces exclusively for their gift shop, donating 20-25% of every sale back to their rescue efforts. That opportunity really inspired me to want to work on a conservation series of my own, and thus the Oil Slick Collection was born!

If you have been following my journey in any capacity since I moved to the Keys, you know I spent the better part of a decade working at Dolphin Research Center (DRC). I would be remiss if I did not lend inspirational credit of this series to one of the most resilient animals I have ever had the pleasure of meeting: Louie.
If you are unfamiliar with Louie, he is a bottle-nosed dolphin that was one of the first victims found stranded on the shoreline from Deep Water Horizon, the BP Oil spill that ravaged the gulf + east coast back in 2010. He was stranded as a juvenile and given a nominal 5% chance of survival. After being scooped up by the Louisiana Marine Mammal Rescue team and deemed non-releasable by the US government, he was brought to his forever home in the natural lagoons of DRC in the Florida Keys.

Over the course of 2024 we will be slow-dropping unique lichtenberg fractal pieces that I have hand-painted in a vibrant oil-slick color scheme. Each color is applied with the intention of symbolizing the hauntingly beautiful “Kiss of Death” that is the sheen of an oil spill across the water’s surface, and through that, the perseverance we witness time and time again from our local marine flora + fauna (like Louie) over manmade natural disasters, like oil spills.

With Lichtenberg fractal patterns intricately burned into each creation, this artwork serves as a electrifying testament to the indomitable spirit of marine life as a whole. Let the fractal patterns forged into each animal cutout evoke a sense of interconnectedness & beauty emerging from the chaos.

My hope is that with each and every piece created, we can all experience the beauty and remember the resilience of our natural world. By adorning your walls with our quintessential creations, you not only infuse your space with a vibrant splash of color but also contribute to ocean conservation efforts. With every purchase, you are playing a part in protecting our precious marine ecosystems, as we will be donating a percentage of each sale to oil spill clean up efforts globally.

I am so pleased you have decided to join us on this adventure, and I can’t wait to show you what’s next!
